Stroke Association Liverpool

Stroke-Stitched

BDAA funded by Dreamstore small grants awards helped Liverpool Stroke Association find that fishing was an activity that could either be revisited as former anglers or a new activity for those who have never tried before.

The fishing experience held at Border Fishery waters controlled by Bay Malton AS was a brilliant success, match angler who had recently had strokes found that fishing could still be part of their lives, wives & husbands who had a stroke or family members affected by the frustration stroke can have on a family unit all commented on how excited they were to be able to re kindle or begin fishing despite their new disabilities.

BDAA provided coaches to help the disabled people access the fishing with professional and understanding tutors, the effect was that the Association then informed a network of other branches who are now all requesting the same introduction as a means of recovery and rehabilitation, Dreamstore enabled the costs of the event to be FREE to the Stoke Association through its grants system, a club has now been developed so members of the Association can go fishing as a group or individuals, support from Dreamstore also meant that through the Dreamstore Academy www.dreamstore.org/academy/ newly qualified coaches will be able to gain the necessary qualifications to help the groups develop.

Since the first initial visit 3 others from the Liverpool area have had presentation by Rick keeley Chairman of the BDAA.

If you are interested in this area of introduction please contact terry@bdaa.co.uk subject tile Stroke Development scheme.
